An NP's scope of practice can include assessing a patient's condition, ordering tests, interpreting results and making diagnoses, prescribing medication, and ordering treatments. Scope of practice varies by state.On January 18, 2018, Governor John Hickenlooper signed Senate Bill 18-027 Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. The law placed Colorado into the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). As a member of the NLC, the State Board of Nursing now requires all applicants to obtain a fingerprint background check in order to obtain a nursing license in Colorado.
